progress report

I got my progress report today i am so happy with the results of the report. I got all A's and B's (5 A's and three B's). I found out that my best friend just got the job interview he's been looking forward to for years, i am very happy for him! My mother celebrated her birthday yesterday and today. I can tell she was happy about the gifts we gave her, she said it was the thought that counted instead of the gift. I know it made her proud deep down inside for us to think about her birthday and to make her feel special and important. I can really say i am happy with the family and friends god has placed in my life.

esssay time

Now i have to focus on my essays (applying for college), SAT's, and HW for school. It is a lot of writing but i believe in myself i can do it, and to the best of my ability. I just finish applying to the University of Baltimore and typing up my posts for English.

faith

I have faith that this year will get better and that everything will get better as time goes on. I got news from my best friend that he wants to go off to the navy first my brother now my best friend, who's next? I am exhausted who knew twisting dreads would be so tiring. I have to finish reading and completing my goals, which is  a whiles away. I used to think that i had no purpose in life, and nothing good can come of my life; whenever i experienced 1something bad and that i hadn't wanted to happen. My new outlook for today or at-least the rest of this week is to use, and have faith.

Ready to get ahead of the game

I think it is time i forget what happened this month even though its hard i know i can! I am happy there's no school tomorrow although  I am ready to catch up in homework, my blogs, and my reading assignment. This is an important time off and i am going try to prioritize my time, something that i don't do very often!




I think that every thing that has happened i destined to prepare me for what is to come in the future. Its hard to be mad or frustrated when your normally a happy person all the time! I have lots of people that have started to look forward to my smile everyday, and polite hellos to warm up their day. I've realized not being popular and a part of the crowd is an great giftedness or benefactor to my success. I've learned how to act as my own person and not care what anyone thinks of me. Its my new attitude towards life. This leaves me thinking about one of my favorite poems, that Ms. Duka mentioned today in class by Robert Frost "The Road Not Taken", and how i have been switching friends every year since middle school because every crowd wasn't the right crowd. I ad learn this the hard way, it took me some time but Ive learned who to hang around and consider my friends/peers. I was very glad to be reminded of how far i have traveled so far down the right path i hope to continue.

I was confirmed in church today the message, the preacher came from Hebrews 11:1,6. It was talking about faith is the substance of things hoped for and evidence of things not seen. How ironic for the preacher to preach that considering the book we are reading in AVID "A hope in the unseen". It showed me that i need to have hope in the unseen!

everthing has a reason!!

Had a talk with my mother about my college choices for the first time. It felt good to finally talk to her about my goals, aspirations, my major choice, and my future. I got emailed some free applications from some universities that i am interested in. I feel bad about not blogging on Thursday and Friday but my i pod was stolen in one of the AVID classes and i was highly upset about it because it was a birthday gift from my older sister for my sixteenth birthday. It was also my only way to post pictures on my blog for my grade. I am shamed that i cant trust my fellow AVID classmates and that someone would stoop to a lower level to take it.

Even though my i pod was taken i have good  news i am going to be apart of  Towson University High School Choir. Even through everything that went wrong this week pass i am going to stay positive because no one can make me or break me! God is my strength and he always has my back when other go up against me and try to hurt me. I miss my grandpa and Mrs. Diane they would know what to tell me! R.I.P.! Right now all i can do is pray and ask god for his help because no else can help me in my situation!

a great but horrific day

today was an great day in school, i worked on my house board for Prometheus, and i found out i am going to be in the Towson University High School choir, and tryout for the Baltimore county honors choir. The day was also horrible because i don't know where my i pod is, but i don't have time to let that bother me. I am really anxious to see how the avid induction is going to go with this years twist. I cant wait to see how each of the houses with their character traits came up with their boards and put their ideas and thoughts together.

Today i learned how to rationalize radical it was very fun! It was stressful when i came home though my brother was trying to take the position of being my father, which is not legal at all. But what suprised me was the fact that he tried to snitch on me to me parent because i was on the phone really? Last time i checked i could talk on the phone. I would hate for him to be my role model in life losing jobs , dropping out  of UMBC, and joining the army. I think he could've done better than he has, he alot of potential but he has wasted it.

  

Its time for me to get tunnel focused on my school work and put everything else behind me, and focus on my goals and aspirations for my future. I dont really care if no one is proud of me right now, i just want to do my best for myself! Sometimes people dont see your true abilitys until it is a true success, and you are doing something good and they want to use you.

Today was a good day but once again i had to face reality. I wasn't to surprised that my friends would treat me different and that once again i would be made the reason for bad happening. I am really surprised though at the fact that it was over a car ride, and I find myself once again relying back on my religious background, and help to handle the situation like a responsible young adult.

I enjoyed working on the avid induction poster board, and getting to see my peers thoughts and ideas on the Promethean theme. All the ideas we came up with were great, and refreshing, and something new to rely on and push against for my house. I am relying on my strength and wisdom to pull me through this senior year, and to help me with my goals, and plans for this year!!!

Reflection

The sacratic seminar in AVID was a very different but good experience it allowed me to get my answer out, and also listen others perspectives. The main question that came to my attention and made me think was the question asked whether you would go to the assembly if you knew that you would be talked about and bullied.

Google Earth Project

Country: Mexico

1.      Acapulco: This is an important landmark because it is attracted by tourists and is settled by a lot of Mexican people. It has had an increased population of the last couple of years making it competition for Cancun. Humans that moved their have modified the land to attract more tourists each year. They have decreased the airfare to also attract vacationers, and have made cruises. It impacts life on the region by increasing the peace and money the region can take in.

2.      Chichen Itza in Yucatan Peninsula: It has been settled and modified by the Mexicans and is a famous place for traditional ceremonies. This is an important landmark because it was founded by the early Mayan civilization. The site has been modified and preserved by the people, it has different architectural styles. It is also very famous for its Mayan Pyramids which are toured very often. It impacts life in the region because it is a part of Mexican history it is historic but also modern.

3.       Museo Nacional De Antropoligia: This is an important landmark because it is it has historic value that dates back the sixteenth century. It was modified and opened by the Mexicans in 1964. It impacts life in the city because it includes the cities ancestries which were the Aztecs and Mayans. It has artifacts of archeological and anthropological importance. A model of ancient Tenochtitlan and exhibits on other countries such as Greece, and Spain are included in in the exhibits at the museum.

Location:

1.     Acapulco: Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico

2.     Chichen Itza in Yucatán Peninsula: Cancun, Riviera

3.     Museo Nacional De Antropoligia: Mexico City, Chapultepec Park, Paseo De la Reforma, and Calle Mahatma Gandhi.

The order I would put them in would be:

1.     Chichen Itza in Yucatán Peninsula: I placed this first in the tour because it the most historic but yet modern landmark.

2.     Museo Nacional De Antropoligia: I placed this second in the tour because it the second historic place or landmark.

3.     Acapulco: This would be the last on my tour because it is the most modern and yet more important when it comes to bringing in money for the country and making profit.

Just finished my college essay i am happpy at the results of my writing it stands out and i can get feedback from my teacher to help me better improve my essay!






        

Just finish reading " A hope in the unseen" chapters 1-3 it is a very touching, powerful, and Cant wait to read the next couple of chapters in the book!

jbarnwell project 365- day 2

Doing my geometry and human geography homework. Also had a great time at church today now its time to get focused i have a lot of work ahead of me. Now is not the time for me to quit but persue my work set out for me which is much but i can handle it if i work hard enough at it.

Jamilla is hard working student that has been enrolled in vigorous courses. She has been faced with many obstacles throughout her years in high school. She has been an active member in the AVID program since her ninth grade year making this her fourth year. She started out in AVID at Woodlawn Senior High School, but then came to Newtown High School her Sophomore year up untill now her senior year. She has also been apart of the Newtown High School Honors Chorale all three years, and is an AVID tutor. She plans on going to school to study pre-law and plans on applying to either UB, Stevenson, Howard, and others. She is ready to finish this year off with great success.

A very long exciting day

Today Was a very exciting day. It was my first day as an avid tutor which I am excited about being one! Also it was exciting to learn about human geography and how to find important landmarks on google earth.

It was also exciting to go over latitude and longitude. Also Learning what human services were about and how to find a career in the career clusters. Finally my geometry class showed me how good I am at solving mathematical problems and how glad I am to keep the class. :)
